"Human or Android?" (Ref. 108) is an atypical and magnetic portrait (40x40 cm) marking a peak in Ruggero Ruggieri's psychological exploration. The work, characterized by a Fauvist aesthetic with vibrant and unnatural colors, arises from a complex layering of suggestions: the artist glimpses the iconic features of Freddie Mercury merged with the stern and authoritative gaze of his father. The title questions the viewer on the nature of identity and emotion in the contemporary era. Through an energetic palette knife that sculpts features with almost sculptural oil thicknesses, Ruggieri creates a face that seems to reproach and challenge the onlooker. Chosen by a dear friend for his private collection, the work represents the artist's most intimate and experimental side, capable of transforming a portrait into an emotional battlefield between memory, myth, and the future.
