"Lilacs" (Ref. 053) is a large-scale work (60x60 cm) that elevates the floral subject into a vibrant and modern chromatic experience. Following the research started with "I 13 Girasoli," Ruggero Ruggieri uses the theory of complementary colors to enhance the delicacy of lilacs through a bold and magnetic contrast. The application is entirely performed with a palette knife: the flower clusters are not merely painted but sculpted onto the canvas with a material density that gives the painting sculptural depth. Light slides over the ridges of the oil, making the violet tones pulse against a background designed to maximize their luminosity.
